Page 135 of the Earl J. Arnold Advertising Card Collection 1885 http://goo.gl/pcJWhg shows us this small scrap with big style and color. Just one dress like this in Emma Jane Arnold's closet would delight her!
Setting aside the racial/cultural stereotypes of the time, I think the character designs in the brush adverts are really neat. The big heads & little bodies, the four color press, even the misregistered ink - just sort-of fun to look at.
Emma Jane is moving her Victorian Fashion Collection to [ https://arnoldsvictorianfashion.blogspot.com/ ] AND [ https://www.flickr.com/photos/thevictorian/albums/72157674640244377 ] These new locations will host new content and some of the old will migrate there, too. Thanks for following & hope to see you at the new locations!
Beginning a new Flickr album [ http://bit.ly/FlickrVictorianFashions ] this grandmother and grandson select thread for their next creation in Victorian fashion. Hat at the ready at her feet, somebody wanted to be sure to show off this outfit and the very full hairdo. This card is a mystery. There were no markings on it to indicate its sponsor or maker. #EmmaJanesFavoriteFashions #bestarnoldcards #19thCenturyTradeCards
