Stylish Victorian children's beachwear reflected parental emphasis on covering, rather than displaying the body. Swimming while wearing these outfits would be a chore...but they looked good while ashore! On the reverse of the card, Woolson Spice Co., maker of Lion Coffee, advertised a "premium" available to purchasers of their brand. One of Boston’s finest and most respected old names, The Poole Piano Company name was produced for nearly a century. During the early 20th Century, Poole offered several lines of upright pianos, grand pianos and player pianos. In 1917, the firm was incorporated by William Poole’s son, Ava W. Poole. "Instruments by The Poole Piano Company were exceedingly well made and very expensive. Because of their high cost when new, Poole pianos were not produced in high volume like most other major manufacturers. In the mid-20th Century, the Poole name was absorbed into the giant Aeolian-American Corporation, and Aeolian continued to build the Poole name until the early 1980s."

Sandusky OH was the center of the original Betsy Ross Bread enterprise, as recorded at [ http://bit.ly/BetsyRossBreadHistory ] According to the Sandusky Library Archives Research Center, "The H and S Modern Baking Company was founded in Sandusky about 1918 by Amandus Smith, Sr. and Edward Hartzel, and continued in operation until the early 1950’s." Height of fashion, 1894! A grape outfit sells grape products. The back of the card makes health claims for Sanitas Grape Food and juice that were most likely exaggerated. Meanwhile, we found a photo of a Sanitas container as part of a slide presentation by Tobin Gilman [ https://www.slideshare.net/tgilman/book-presentation-11-1613 ] Tobin Gilman says, "This presentation was delivered at the New Almaden Quicksilver Mining Museum on November 16, 2013. It features a subset of content from the award winning book, 19TH CENTURY SAN JOSE IN A BOTTLE, as well as general interest material not included in the book." #EmmaJanesFavoriteFashions
