A Stunning Display of Color and Design greets the lucky pedestrian passing by this fine lady. Featured on page 173 https://goo.gl/NQKvMx of the Earl J. Arnold Advertising Collection 1885, the outfit is so distracting, I doubt many saw the advertising sign on the tree!

    Kathy Lind This is a guess. The dress was most likely made from bolts of cotton cloth purchased at a local "fancy goods" store sometime in the 1880s. en.wikipedia.org - Bolt (fabric) - Wikipedia
